Need to set an application to always run with a specific file type in Mac OS X ? I’ll show you how to quickly do it.

In Mac OS X if you select the Open With menu item to choose an application to run a file, Mac OS X will always run that particular file with the application and not all file types with that extension. To set a default application to view all files with a particular file type, you need to go into the Info window of a file.

  • Select a file type that you wish to set a default application to. Right click the file and select Get Info

  • In the File Info window you will see an Open With section.

  • Use the drop down menu to select an application to set as the default application for the file type. You can select “Other…” to choose an application from your applications folder.

  • Click the “Change All…” button, and then click continue.

The application you choose will now be used as the default application for that file type.
