My experience with Internode’s Naked ADSL2+
Lifestyle June 5th, 2008Moving sucks but moving and having no Internet, well it’s like the world has come to an end. My girlfriend thought this was a bit drastic but we didn’t move houses until I had Internet connected at our new apartment - I’ll let you be the judge of that!
Going through the endless amount of ISP’s available had me confused but I finally decided to settle with Internode and here is review of my experience of connecting to them with Naked ADSL2+.
Update (26/06/08) : I received another call from Internode today regarding testing speeds which hasn’t changed. I’m still getting the 200 kb/sec mark during the night and 1.2 mb/sec. They couldn’t tell me anything more than they are still trying to convince Optus. Hopefully something is worked out soon as it has been nearly over a month now…Will keep you all updated.
Update (19/06/08) : My speed issue has once again appeared, it is where I get 150 kb/sec during the evenings (on-peak) and 1.2 mb/sec during the morning (off-peak), I logged a ticket with Internode’s staff a week ago and have not yet heard anything back. According to Internode staff I have been attached to a parent ticket which includes others like myself with the same problem and the real problem is with Optus (damn you!) where they believe that 100 kb/sec is a no issue speed! Internode are trying their hardest with this one and I guess I will just keep waiting it out.
What is Naked ADSL2+ you ask? Well directly from Internode’s mouth it is:
This new generation of ADSL2+ services deliver high speed broadband and save you money each month - because you’ll no longer need to rent a traditional ‘fixed line’ home telephone service. This means that “going naked” can save you $20 - $30 (or even more!) each month - and so, compared to traditional ADSL broadband plans, the savings are… transparently obvious!
After calling up and being on hold for around 30 seconds I was put through to someone in Sales and was told to sign up via the online form, which I did here are the events that proceeded:
From the minute I signed up I was notified of key events via SMS and I was also able to check my order status via Internode’s website. The predicted date when my service would be provisioned was exactly when they said it would be.
After getting connected I noticed that I was getting 100 kb/sec around 5pm - 10pm and around 1.2 mb/sec around 7am, after many tests and calls to level 1 support it was escalated to level 2 support, I was told they were conversing with Optus in regards to the problem. In the end I ended up logging onto Whirlpool and noticed that I wasn’t the only Internode user with the same problem and it was actually due to an Optus back haul issue. However within the a week of the problem existing Internode had worked out a bandaid solution around the problem and my speeds are much better, but not as good I think they could be, but according to Simon Hackett (Internode Rep), Internode are on the case in Melbourne and Brisbane:
At a guess? Some time in the next several weeks, I’d expect.
Thats not a commitment/guarantee, but its really just a question of installation time frames, as the Melbourne (and Brisbane, FYI) interconnects have just been internally approved and they just need to be arranged with Optus at this point.
I have a lot of faith with Internode and if Optus do cooperate I could have perfect speeds soon!
So to cap it off here are some ratings:
- Installation Experience (5/5) - No complaints here, was perfect!
- Technical Support (4/5) - It would of been nice not to have to log on to Whirlpool to discover the actual problem with speeds.
- Callback Facility (4/5) - Took a while to callback but hey it worked every time!
- Unmetered content (5/5) - Just have a look for yourself
Overall, if you aren’t with Internode consider churning soon!
Enjoy!

I hope my connection goes as smooth as yours did (minus the speed problem).
Mine has been a little confusing already.
I moved in to my new Gold Coast apartment and wanted to apply for an internet connection. Not having the phone connected made it very hard to find the righ solution as there is no way to find out if I can get a Naked connection without a phone number.
After checking the phone number of the 7/11 down the road I instantly applied for an Internode Naked ADSL2+ connection. After reading a few threads in Whirlpool I discovered that I couldn’t get a “New Connection” In a multi dewing building (No Flapping Idea Why!! and no mention of that fact on Internode’s website that I could find)
I then had to ring Internode and cancel my current order and place another one with Telstra to get a phone line connected.
It does seem a little stupid getting phone line connected to only have it disconnected a week later, but I guess thats the way it has to be.
My Phone line is going to be connected today and I have placed the order again with internode. I hope all is smooth sailing from now on and I can’t wait for the Brisbane interconnect to be installed.

Hi NotSoMad,
Thats not good, however, did you actually call up and ask Internode if you could have Naked ADSL2+ in an apartment block?

I sure did and they said there is no way for them to check until I get a phone number.
I’m not sure if this has something to do with the multi dwelling problem or not. They may have been able to check if I lived in a normal house, but I’m not sure.

I don’t believe it has anything to do with being in a multi dwelling as I never mentioned to anyone (Telstra or Internode) that I was in an apartment block.
Correct me if I’m wrong but to have Naked ADSL2+ provisioned over you must first have a working phone line with a phone number, they do provide the service for someone to come out and connect your service up but if you are already have a phone socket it’s just easier to sign up and get a phone number for the month’s charge.
